What’s the Scoop?

Dear Reader,

I took my time with starting this newsletter because I wanted to be sure it felt right ~ That offering it would continue to align with WhatsGoodYYY goals and values, and build something that fosters a sense of community and education. I hope you will consider this newsletter as an additional tool for your resource centre toolbox, as well as, a hub for sharing stories, resources, and connection to the many parts of our beautiful community and economy.

Some notes about this newsletter:

  • You'll see it once a month ~ Your time is precious & we know that. We’re not here to waste it, we’re here to sweeten it.

  • We will be consistent with sharing exciting local businesses, events & opportunities.

  • Super special local secrets, sales, savings & surprises!

It may take another hot minute but, we are working on releasing a blog (& more diverse content styles) in 2024. We'd love to learn more if you are interested in contributing to or collaborating on a story.

This newsletter is for you so if you’d like to see something specific, have a cool idea, or even just a questions, I want to hear from you personally. Feedback is how we grow and evolve into what we are becoming, and it simultaneously gives us insight into how we’re doing along the way.

Thanks for being here & thanks for being What’s Good.

With Local Love,
Sam + the What’s Good YYJ team

~ What’s Good Monthly Forecast // A P R I L ~

The street corners are covered with a light pink dust ~ almost like strawberry-flavoured powdered sugar. Spring breaches late March and the world slowly blossoms around us. I get closer to the pinkest part of the street and my brisk walk wisps cherry tree petals right off the ground to join me. The ocean breeze carries each petal farther than I ever guessed they’d go. Perhaps I could do the same, perhaps we all could… surprise ourselves again too.

I noticed that the cracks in the sidewalk hold these lil’ pink petals the way we hold dandelion puffs when we’re just waiting to blow—warm, gently, an excited yet safe place to be before catching the wind, on a wish, just trying to see how far they can possibly go.

April warms us with pink streets, sunlight, and new connections as we sprout after a long winter… hang on tight to that feeling of becoming again, this season invites you to rediscover. So come ~ rediscover yourself, local businesses, and come rediscover this amazing island with us!

Vibes: shades of pink, hints of sunshine, guilty pleasures, sprouting, rediscovery.

~ A Super Secret ~

From Sam’s Brain

I’ve come to learn that running a small business (and being an adult in general) often means having a plan in mind… and then trying to be comfortable knowing that you are always jumping into the unknown when you try something new. I think a lot of fear and anxiety can come from this feeling, sometimes to the point that we forget that this is where the secret sauce is. When we try something new, something we believe in, we give ourselves the grace and the chance to rediscover who we are, what we are capable of, and all that we can still do. This email, although one of many hopefully living in your inbox (and not your spam folder), was oddly a big feat for me… Sure, in an exciting yet also anxious way. Life’s about jumping in though, right?
